UNISON fights discrimination and prejudice in the workplace on behalf of its lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT+) members. Our branch campaigns and provides support for all LGBT+ members in Surrey.
Despite many wins in the fight for LGBT+ equality over the years, there are still many battles to be won. Most notably is the fight for Trans Rights. Across the board, Trans people face discrimination, and workplaces are no different unfortunately. Our branch remains committed to ensuring that Trans people feel included at work, without facing discrimination based on their identity. We work to ensure that people are better educated about the struggles Trans people face, and support our Trans and LGBT+ members when they face discrimination at work.
Our branch has worked to bring Pride events to Surrey, and continues to support LGBT+ people in workplaces across the county, through our branch LGBT+ officer. We also represent our members regionally and nationally at conference.

My name is Ellie and I am the LGBT+ Officer who helps members who identify as LGBT+ within the branch.
I have been a branch rep for about 3 years now and thoroughly enjoy working with the team and empowering members.
We organise stalls at Pride in Surrey, help with local community events and initiatives and work within the council to drive change for LGBT+ members.
